"Objectivity is a mythical deity to which we at Time do not pay homage."

In 1985, I wrote a letter to the editor of Time magazine concerning one of their articles about VCRs, in which the writer had insisted that the Beta format was dead. The article was riddled with fabrications and outright lies and I pointed this out in my letter, asking the magazine: "Where is your objectivity?" My letter was never printed, but I did receive a response from a staffer of the editor, about 2 paragraphs in length, and the closing sentence stuck in my mind to this day: "Objectivity is a mythical deity to which we at Time do not pay homage."
